On Wednesday the 2nd of October the Club will be welcoming back our existing members and hopefully a number of ‘newbies’ to the first meeting of the 2024 winter season. We will be restarting club evenings with a presentation evening entitled 'What I did this Summer' where members will show us their images from what  has been for some members a very busy summer on the photographic side.

We will also be looking at the programme for the rest of the year and what is come up soon with our fourth internal competition, the Stanley Chell Cup, our 3-Way Battle with Barry CC and Rhiwbina CC and the  Afan Nedd 10-Way battle all on the horizon we have a busy last three months of the year.

As usual, there was time for a cup of tea and a biscuit and a chat when new and old members got an opportunity to catch up and make new friends.

What Is World Photography Day?

The word Photography literally means 'drawing with light', which derives from the Greek photo, meaning light and graph, meaning to draw.

Every year, photography lovers come together to participate in a global celebration of all things photography. World Photography Day is a fantastic opportunity for photographers all around the world to share their ideas, innovations, and art. The event not only showcases the incredible diversity of photographic styles and techniques but also serves as a platform for discussing pressing issues in the industry, such as copyright, digital manipulation, and ethical considerations. 

The members of our club have a wide variety of interests and this is often reflected in our regular competitions. Portraits, travel, sport, landscapes, macro and abstract images often make an appearance.

For club member Martin Eaglestone it is woodlands and trees that spark his interest. Martin explains more.

In January 2024 the club was delighted to be invited to photograph the former synagogue in Merthyr Tydfil. This striking gothic style building is now owned by the Foundation for Jewish Heritage who aim to restore the building to its original condition as the Jewish Historical Centre for Wales.
